PRESS STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

World Food Day 2026 under the theme “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.”
DTM Calls for Inclusive Innovation to Strengthen Food Security.
As the world marks World Food Day, 2026, under the theme “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow,” Development Through Media (DTM) calls for increased investment in sustainable agriculture and inclusive innovations to strengthen food security and access to nutritious food.
Smallholder farmers, particularly women and young people, remain central to Kenya’s food systems, but face challenges including limited access to finance, technology, markets and climate-resilient farming practices.
DTM urges national and county governments, research institutions and development partners to promote farmer-centred innovations, integrate indigenous knowledge, reduce food losses and improve access to affordable, nutritious food.
DTM also calls on community media to amplify farmers’ voices, share agricultural knowledge and promote accountability in food security programmes.
Building resilient food systems requires empowering farmers, protecting the environment and ensuring everyone can access nutritious food.
