International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

Development Through Media (DTM), marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, calls for renewed commitment to tackling poverty, inequality and social exclusion, with particular emphasis on the 2026 focus on safe and affordable housing.

Poverty extends beyond inadequate income. Insecure housing, unemployment and limited access to healthcare, education and essential services, undermine human dignity and perpetuate inequality.

DTM urges national and county governments to expand access to affordable, safe and adequate housing, strengthen social protection, promote decent employment and ensure marginalised communities participate in decisions affecting their lives.

Eradicating poverty requires making decent housing and essential services accessible to all, while upholding human dignity and equality.
