DTM CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2025: LOCAL ACTIONS, GLOBAL IMPACT
Nairobi, Kenya — Development Through Media (DTM) today joins the global community in marking International Youth Day 2025 under the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.” This year’s commemoration holds a special significance as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a global blueprint to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all.
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, International Youth Day is a powerful reminder of the transformative role that young people play in shaping inclusive, equitable, and sustainable societies. It is also a rallying call for governments, institutions, and civil society to place youth voices at the centre of decision-making.
Over the years, DTM has ventured to empower, energise, and amplify youth voices. Through its thematic focus areas—ranging from civic engagement, climate action, media literacy, gender equality, and service delivery and augmented by its core values, among them inclusivity and social justice—DTM has consistently provided platforms for young people to tell stories that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The SDGs will surely be realised if we continue to actively invest in the ideas, leadership, and creativity of our youth. Local youth-led actions are not just community projects—they are the building blocks of global change. At DTM, we see young people not as leaders of tomorrow, but as co-creators of change today,”— Ms Dommie Yambo-Odotte, Executive Director & Producer, DTM.
In commemorating this year, DTM will heighten it efforts to:
• Showcase youth-led and SDG aligned projects through its media and advocacy initiatives such as its network of Development Reporters (DevReporters), the Radio Baraza, etc.
• Highlight success stories of young entrepreneurs and innovators who are driving social and environmental impact in their communities.
• Reinforce strategic partnerships with stakeholders committed to nurturing and scaling youth-led solutions.
Plans are also underway at DTM to roll out the Youth Programme on its Radio Baraza Platform. The programme aims to feature voices from across Kenya, to share experiences, identify barriers, and explore collaborative opportunities for advancing the development agenda including the SDGs, at the local and national levels, as we head towards and beyond 2030.
DTM reaffirms its unwavering commitment to creating spaces where youth participation is meaningful, universal, and equitable—ensuring that no voice is left unheard, and no action goes unsupported.
About DTM Development Through Media (DTM) is a pioneer media-based, not-for-profit Civil Society Organisation (M-CSO) in Kenya, dedicated to harnessing the power of media and communication for inclusive and transformative development.
