Statement on the Launch of Continuous Voter Registration by the IEBC
Nairobi, Kenya — Development Through Media (DTM) welcomes the announcement by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on the commencement of Continuous Voter Registration today, Monday 29th September 2025.
This is not just an administrative exercise — it is a national call to action. A functional democracy begins with the simple yet powerful act of registering to vote. It is through this act, that citizens, and particularly the youth, position themselves as enablers of free, fair, and credible elections.
Kenya’s democracy thrives when every eligible citizen participates fully in shaping the leadership and policies that govern their lives. Voter registration is the gateway to that participation. It is the passport that allows each one of us to transform opinion into influence, and frustration into change.
We especially call upon young Kenyans — the majority in our population — to seize this opportunity. The energy, creativity, and aspirations of youth must find expression in the ballot, not only in conversation or protest. By registering and eventually voting, young people cement their rightful place as co-authors of Kenya’s future.
As DTM, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering civic engagement through information, dialogue, and advocacy. We shall continue to work with institutions, communities, and in the media space where we have operated for decades, to ensure that access to information translates into active participation.
Let us remember: a democracy without voters is a democracy without voice. Our message to all Kenyans today is: Step forward, register, and strengthen the foundations of a democracy that works for all.
